The more I learn about using the camera, the better it gets. I've been using mine for almost a year now. I keep it clipped to my PFD when kayaking and it performs admirably. What I want is a waterproof SLR, but I'm not willing to pay the price for that. This isn't it, but it's a fine camera. The battery seems to run out at inconvenient times, but that is user error, no the fault of the camera. I recently took pictures at the Grand Canyon in the rain.
I'd hit the power switch, the light comes on then immediately goes off. I've had the Optio W60 for about 3 months. On a recent trip the camera very suddenly would not stay powered on. This is with a fully charged battery. If it stays on, hitting the zoom switch causes it to go off most of the time.I've been pleased with the camera overall, but right now I'm waiting for a reply from Pentax on this problem.
The photos were not crisp enough. It was pretty interesting shooting footage under water but the image just didn't pop.
Pentax Optio W60 Waterproof 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom (Ocean Blue)This is a nice little camera if you're planning your next snorkeling trip.I bought it specifically for that and enjoy it immensely during our (short, unfortunately) vacation to Aruba.Before leaving I "practiced" at the neighborhood pool and in just a few moments I figured out the underwater set up and took some funny pictures of the kid.I was nervous about salty water, but it worked perfectly there too and in no time we were taking great pictures of lots of colorful fishes of the Aruba reefs.I took good care to rinse off any salty residue, as recommended, by washing it in fresh water every evening at the hotel and dry it well with a towel.No problem to report whatsoever. Loved the light weight, not so much the big size of the battery recharger. Well, none's perfect and that's just a secondary thing.As a suggestion, I would also recommend to buy the Pentax Floating Wrist Strap. It was very handy, and I could let the camera go and let it float in front of me while adjusting mask and snorkel.
I really like this camera. I bought it because it was waterproof, but discovered it was capable of almost as much as my DSLR. It is small enough to keep in my purse so I have it for all occasions.
